St. Francis Community Center’s highly anticipated Super Plunge challenges local residents to channel their inner polar bears and jump into the freezing ocean. While last year’s event was moved to May meaning divers were greeted by somewhat warmer temperatures, this winter the event – the 18th annual – is scheduled for the Saturday, February 12, the day before Super Bowl Sunday. Get ready for ice cold water!

The dip will take place at 11 a.m. on the beach at 48th Street in Brant Beach, across from St. Francis of Assisi Church, located at 4700 Long Beach Blvd. Members of the Township of Long Beach Beach Patrol will be on hand to monitor the event.

St. Francis reminds people not only to wear their bathing suits or suits, but also to bring “a bathrobe, towel, blanket, or whatever else you’ll need to warm up after” the dip in the Atlantic.

Entry forms can be picked up at the Community Center reception or printed on Facebook at facebook.com/stfrancislbi. The participation fee is $30 per person or only $20 for students. Return the forms to reception by 10:30 a.m. on the 12th.

Proceeds go to the St. Francis Community Center and Southern Regional High School swim teams. For more information, call 609-494-8861 or visit stfranciscenterlbi.org. —JK-H.
