9 things to do this weekend: Celebrate women in space and more | CU Boulder today

This weekend, the International Coffee Hour, a free HIIT workout, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, an open mic night, Recovery at the Rock Gym, student recitals and more.

Friday October 8

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Koelbel Commons outdoor patio
Come meet international and national students while enjoying free coffee and snacks. All CU Boulder students and faculty are welcome. There will be anecdotes, so be sure to stop by for a fun experience on Friday afternoon!

5 pm-6pm Recreation center
Have a friend join you at the recreation center for a HIIT workout! Head to the outdoor fitness court for a functional, full body workout. This class will use a variety of outdoor equipment including box jumps, agility ladders, rings and pull-up bars.

6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fiske Planetarium

The CU Boulder Space & Sustainability Initiative and the Secure World Foundation celebrate women in space during World Space Week. Join the academic community and the aerospace industry for food and beverage at 6 p.m. And at 7:00 p.m., guests will be invited to the Fiske Auditorium to hear from women making strides toward sustainability of the space. After the presentations, stick around for cookies and coffee. RSVP to guarantee your place.

7:30 p.m. CHEM 140
Bring your popcorn and a friend and come watch a free movie. Every Friday the Program Board will be showing a movie so you don’t have to worry about Friday night plans! Don’t miss tonight’s film about an orphan boy who enrolls in witchcraft school, where he learns the truth about himself, his family, and the terrible evil that haunts the wizarding world. Places are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. the film starts at 8 p.m.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. UMC, The connection
Calling all artists! Are you a singer, musician, group, actor, poet, storyteller or have other talents that you want to share with the world? If so, come and perform at Open Mic Night at Connection’s Club 156. All types of artists, beginners and experienced artists are welcome. Artist registration begins at 6 p.m. at The Connection reception.

Saturday October 9

7 p.m. to 10 p.m. UMC, The connection
Grab some friends and get ready to have a great Saturday night at The Connection! Have fun bowling with black lights, colored lights and colored pins. It’s the only extreme bowling alley you’ll find in Boulder. Also open on Friday evening.

8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Champ Farrand
Get your costumes and get ready to dance at the Tropical Paradise Silent Disco Party! Bring a friend and come enjoy food and drink as you dance the night away.

Sunday October 10

10 a.m. to noon Recreation center
This event is open to all Recovery Buffs and allies. Enjoy a free afternoon of bouldering and rock climbing at The Rec’s Climbing Hall. Whatever your level or your experience, everyone is welcome. Shoe rental is included and free! There will be outdoor program staff to help with climbing instructions and advice.

4:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. Grusin music room
The stars of tomorrow are on stage today at CU Boulder. Students of the College of Music present old and new works for their degree recitals. Join us in person or broadcast from the comfort of your home. You can also attend recitals at 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
