The Cambria Christmas Market opens in just over two weeks, but we’re learning about some new changes for those wishing to attend.
The popular holiday event runs from November 26 to December 23.
Like last year, this year the event is only open to guests of Cambria Pines Lodge hotels and restaurants and their other two inns.
The Cambria Christmas market attracts the north coast every year.
It has 2 million sparkling Christmas lights.
Last year’s event has been redesigned with a one-way route and spaced groups.
“It’s good that we can safely enjoy it,” said one participant in 2020.
In July, market organizers began promoting the return of the market for this holiday season with tickets already on sale and the possibility of them being available at the door as well.
Now, a few weeks before opening night, according to their website, tickets are sold out.
It indicates that you can still attend by booking a dinner at Cambria Pines Lodge or booking a hotel stay at the Lodge, Sea Otter Inn or J. Patrick House Inn.
The market needs county permission to allow members of the general public to attend.
In a Facebook post, the organizers said: “All guests who purchased Eventbrite tickets have been converted to restaurant reservations.”
Meanwhile, local attorney Russell Read from Cambria says he’s one of three people who have filed appeals against the county planning commission’s decision to allow the market to operate.
âWe live in a natural resource area which is protected by the coastal zone and there are a lot of limitations when you look at the Coastal Zone Ordinance in terms of lighting, noise, weather, traffic, and the Christmas market is simply in violation of the Coastal Zone Act, âRead said.
He also started a petition to shut down the market due to the influx of visitors amid the community’s Stage 4 water emergency and the ongoing pandemic.
âBesides being, at this point, a super spreading event for COVID. COVID has not been eliminated and with a crowd of people all rushing together you have a very serious COVID situation,â Read said.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and close at 8:30 p.m. each market night.
KSBY News contacted Cambria Pines Lodge for an interview, but our request was denied.
