The presentation of Rosie the Riveter will take place on October 12 at Adrian

ADRIAN — A special program on a significant figure in American history will be presented this week to Adrian.

Rosie the Riveter, a WWII icon who highlighted the boldness, determination, creativity and bravery of American men and women, will come to life in a landmark presentation at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Weber Retreat and Conference Center, 1257 E. Siena Heights Drive to the Dominican Sisters Adrian campus.

Lenawee Lifelong Learning, in partnership with Adrian’s District Library, presents the program. Participation is free and the public is welcome.

The Weber Center requires that face masks be worn inside the building. All visitors must check in at reception to have their temperature recorded, according to a news release.

Rosie the Riveter will be hosted by Claire Dahl, who has taught American history since 1971. Dahl has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in women’s history. She sits on the public relations committee of the Yankee Air Museum.

Dahl will step into the role of Rosie the Riveter, donning the iconic blue overalls and red bandana worn by Rosie. She will also combine her love of history with the inspiring stories of Rosie the Riveter and the historic Willow Run B-24 bomber factory and the teamwork of Detroit’s auto industry, according to the release.

“‘We Can Do It’ became the rallying cry for millions of women who had, until then, never considered working on an industrial assembly line manufacturing weapons of war,” said a press release from Adrian’s District Library. “Dahl will pay tribute to the Original Rosies who worked on the line.”

Lenawee Lifelong Learning is an adult education program in Lenawee County. It offers the opportunity to take courses on a variety of subjects. Instructors volunteer their time and expertise. There are no tests or grades, just fun and learning.
